Prague by night. I had a few extra days in Prage before the VBT tour. Darrel Johansen darrelrj@cox.net
I took a trip with a local Prague bike shop down to a castle south of the city.
Moi.
I guess the bike shop actually used this bike for some city tours. They had a brew pub tour. This would probably be a little disorienting.
Next day, I rented a bike on my own from the bike shop and pedaled north of the city up the river. I had to ferry across.
The ride along the river was beautiful.
Me with Prague in the background.
This is where the VBT tour started. We bussed from Prague to Cesky-Krumlov.
First day warm up ride. It was cool but weather got better as the tour progressed.
We got some rain on the second day, but stopped here to eat and dry out.
As you can see the food and beer were just awful... :-)
Out on the road for one of the longer bike days.
Going across the Czech Republic border into Austria. At one time there were armed guards here to seal off the iron curtain.
We catch a cruise line to go further on the Danube.
Dinner.
Lunch by Jan. A nice break from biking through the countryside.
Lots of interesting things to see along the bike ride today.
But mostly, it's just great to get out in the country and bicycle through new lands.
Actually, all these gals were named "Jane," so they had to do a Tarzan pose near a Wiesmuller sign. Johnny Wiesmuller was an actor who played Tarzan. Jane was Tarzan's wife (mate?).... --well, you had to be there.
After a boat ride down the river, our bikes are readied for the next leg of the journey.
